The Devil You Know

The Devil You Know – Heart-Broken or Hard-Hearted?

REESE AND FINCH ARE CAUGHT IN A POWER STRUGGLE FOR CONTROL OF THE CITY’S GANGS WHEN ELIAS’ NUMBER COMES UP, ON “PERSON OF INTEREST.

The Devil You Know” – Reese and Finch are caught in a power struggle for control of the city’s gangs when Elias is targeted by Dominic, the ambitious leader of the Brotherhood. Meanwhile, Root and Shaw disagree over how to handle a new threat from Samaritan.

Anthony ‘Scarface’ Marconi fairly bristles under the idea that he can’t keep Carl Elias safe but circumstances conspire to make John Reese a necessity, when one of The Brotherhood tries to ambush the two from behind. Elias is under attack from Dominic and his people. Even old friends, one in particular, a man named Geno, have fallen to the allure of more money and more power. Only those closest to the Don will remain steadfast. Thus includes Harold Finch and John Reese who might not agree with Elias’ methods but they certainly prefer The Devil They Know to be in charge of the organized crime in New York City.

Forced into making a stand against the members of The Brotherhood, Elias and Scarface, with Reese in tow, lure the the gang members into an old building being renovated and into we later learn, a trap. Only in a cruel twist of fate, Anthony is shot and captured. Reese gets Elias to seeming safety only to have the Don stop John by gunpoint from keeping him from re-entering the building to save his friend Anthony. Dominic is not honorable and reneges on his deal to trade Anthony’s life for Carl’s. The power-hungry Brotherhood leader wants what is in the safe in the penthouse. In sacrifice of his life Marconi tells Elias to give them the combination. John gets back in and saves Carl just as the bomb detonates, the combination was the sequence to activate the explosives. Elias is safe but later vows revenge against Dominic and those Carl once called allies that turned on him.

Carl Elias knows what a real brotherhood is. So did Anthony, he gave his life for his ‘brother’. Will that ultimately be Dominic’s downfall? Will any of Dominic’s ‘brothers’ voluntarily give their lives for him?

My kudos to writer, Eric Mountain, actors Enrico Colantoni and David Valcin for making me mourn the death of a criminal henchman who showed us what never-ending loyalty and love for another truly means.
