Person of Interest 4×17 ‘Karma’ Video Highlights

Press Release for 4.17 ‘Karma’

REESE AND FINCH TRY TO PROTECT A PSYCHOLOGIST WHO HAS AN UNORTHODOX METHOD OF HELPING HIS CLIENTS GAIN CLOSURE.

Karma” – Reese and Finch try to protect a psychologist whose unorthodox methods for helping his patients find closure could cost him dearly. Meanwhile, flashbacks reveal Finch’s fragile state in the days following the bombing that killed his best friend, Nathan Ingram.

Karma was the 17th episode of Person of Interest season 4. The theme here turned out to be about more than the common meaning of karma. What goes around comes around is true for most things, but it is also true that you get what you give. If you try to steer karma in the direction that you feel it should go and on the time table of your personal needs then you will simply be adding to your own burden. Yes, people reap what they sow, but you can’t force the seed to grow. All that does is leave you farming barren soil.

We see a flashback of Harold Finch (Michael Emerson) newly in his wheelchair. The bitterness and helplessness is conveyed with painful accuracy by the hard set mouth and stiff posture. Harold is still healing both mentally and physically from the explosion at the ferry that took Nathan Ingram’s life as well as Harold’s mobility.

This Harold Finch is at the edge, teetering on the brink of becoming an avenging angel of death. He plans to blow Alicia Corwin (Elizabeth Marvel) sky high in her SUV in downtown Manhattan. The Machine calls a pay-phone over and over again to desperately stop Admin from doing this. The Machine doesn’t have a voice yet as Finch cruelly mocks it. Somehow, the constant droning of the mournful cry of that Artificial Intelligence gets through to Harold at the last second. He does not become a murderer. Instead he becomes the Harold we know, someone who tries to lessen the suffering in this world.

In the present, Harold Finch works the Number of Dr.Shane Edwards (Patrick Kennedy) with Lionel Fusco (Kevin Chapman) and John Reese (Jim Caviezel). They attempt to stop something bad from happening. The Doctor lost his wife to a violent crime eight years ago. Instead of falling apart, it appears that the good doctor started a not for profit charity for victims of crimes.

It turns out that the doctor doesn’t just comfort the victims, he also frames their attackers for other crimes that they did not commit. The doctor is not releasing just good into the world. Instead, he adds injustices that weaken him morally. His plan seems to be coming to a head. They believe that the number wants to permanently punish the person who is believed to have killed his wife. Harold fears that Shane is going to kill the man who was responsible in his mind for the death of the one person who connected him to the world.

John Reese is reminded of his loss of Jessica. John takes the side of their number—violence is the only justice John sees right now. Harold attempts to alleviate John Reese’s own suffering by pleading that they can not sanction murder. Even if it seems like their Number is assisting Karma, Harold explains that adding more hurt on top of hurt just multiples the pain in the world.

Reese loses the Edwards in a crowd. The POI has plans to meet his wife’s killer at the botanical gardens where he originally proposed to his wife. Harold is the closest asset to the gardens.

Harold reaches the Doctor as he points a gun at the alleged killer. Finch uses his own experience with grief to plead with the Shane. John Reese makes it to the gardens and insists that Harold leave so John can deal with this. Finch refuses. Instead, they discover that Edwards wasn’t going to kill Morris but instead commit suicide, framing the man once and for all. Harold again pleads that this is not justice. This is not a fitting memorial for the woman who changed his life. This holy place should not be marred by more violence. Harold Finch once again reaches people with his voice and reason. Dr. Edwards lets John take the gun.
