Kevin Chapman Creates a Good Detective In Lionel Fusco

Currently, Kevin Chapman may be seen weekly on CBS’ Person of Interest as New York Police Department Homicide Detective Lionel Fusco. When we are first introduced to Det. Fusco, we find a man lacking ethics and morals. In the pilot Detective Fusco is a dirty cop working with other dirty cops and a corrupt assistant district attorney.

Due to his situation, Lionel Fusco is persuaded (or manipulated) to join our ambitious duo, John Reese (Jim Caviezel) and Harold Finch (Michael Emerson), as they try to prevent crimes before they happen. Over the course of time, Fusco gradually realizes the gift he has been given in being able to help others by assisting them and to redeem himself.

By the end of the first season, Detective Fusco begins to try and distance himself from his past wrongdoings and those who had influence over him. Unfortunately, as season two progresses, his past comes back to haunt him, but Fusco receives help from an unlikely source, his partner Detective Carter and Bear, the Belgian Malinois Reese rescued and later gave to Harold for protection.

During the first two seasons on POI, Lionel has gone from a man who is not trusted, to a valued member of the team whom they all have come to rely on.

My first exposure to Kevin Chapman was his portrayal of Brandon O’Hare in Leverage’s The Beantown Bailout Job (2009). Although this was a onetime guest appearance, Chapman brought unique life to this character who could have easily been one dimensional and flat. This role showcased his ability as a character actor.

Having appeared as a regular on Brotherhood, Kevin Chapman understands the demands of being on a weekly television program. Mr. Chapman has appeared in several films, Boondock Saints (1999), Mystic River (2003) and Ladder 49 (2004), to name a few and his many guest appearances on television in addition to Leverage include 24, Sons of Anarchy and Criminal Minds, with a recurring role on Rescue Me, along with many others.

Person of Interest was fortunate to acquire Kevin Chapman for the role of Lionel Fusco. His skills to grow the character are becoming more evident as the show progresses.
